Facebook Referring Almost 20 Times More Website Traffic Than Twitter

Facebook now refers more than one-fifth (21.3%) of traffic to the average website. Its nearest competitor, Pinterest, refers 7.1%. And while YouTube, Google+ and LinkedIn send the most engaged referral traffic, in terms of sheer numbers they are still fractional players.

But remember – these numbers refer to the average website, not to any one particular website or industry. Depending on your niche and products, your time might be better spent pursuing the engaged traffic rather than big numbers.

Think of it this way – would you rather have a list of 10,000 freebie seekers? Or 1,000 buyers? You'll want to weigh all the factors when deciding which social networks deserve an investment of your time.
